Lesson 3.6.2 Vaṇijjāsuttaṃ – Five Kind of Trades to Be Avoided
While the Buddha’s contemporaries could follow his guidance on right livelihood due to the direct, personal and visible nature of trade at that time, today's globalized, interconnected economy presents a significant challenge. It can be difficult for a modern follower of the Buddha's path to avoid indirect connections to unwholesome trades, which are often hidden within seemingly "normal" jobs, investments, and consumer habits. Therefore, it is necessary for meditators on the path to examine the hidden possible unwholesome side effects in one’s livelihood, choices, and even financial involvements.
