Rūpaparicchedo, Abhidhammatthasaṅgaho

Vocabulary
  1. avikkhepo - [a + vikkhepo] mental balance, calmness
  2. paggāho - [paggāho] exertion, endeavour
  3. panārabbha - [pana + ārabbha] and + beginning with, with reference to
  4. vikkhepo - mental disturbance, confusion

1. As mentioned in the introduction ONLY the respective first citta of those eight that are based on greed or craving with its cetasikā is quoted here, neglecting further differentiating factors as sasaṅkhārena or asaṅkhārena, upekkhāsahagataṃ and diṭṭhigatavippayuttaṃ - for which the reader may refer to the original text. For the description of all eight unwholesome consciuousnesses based on lobha see 3.10.8.1 AbhidhammaCitta, Part One - States of Consciousness - Dvādasa akusalāni cittāni.

2. Again for the additional specification with sasaṅkhārena, one may refer to the original text. The cetasikā remain the same.

3. Both cittāni based on delusion – upekkhāsahagataṃ uddhaccasampayuttaṃ and upekkhāsahagataṃ vicikicchāsampayuttaṃ – are quoted here. The first one is not accompanied by avikkhepo.

4. Vicikicchā should be seen here as doubt in the sense of uncertainty in regards to the teaching, the path and one’s own endeavours.

5. Uddhacca refers to concentration that is unsteady, shaky, not stable. The cetasika samādhindriya and samādhibala still exist, but there is uncontrolled distraction of the mind and lack of calm.
