He grieves here, he laments hereafter,
An evildoer grieves in both places
He laments being afflicted
Seeing his own evil deeds.
He rejoices here, he delights hereafter,
A performer of wholesome deeds rejoices in both places
He delights, he is thrilled,
Recognising the purity of his own deeds.
He suffers here, he endures hereafter,
An evildoer suffers in both places
“Unwholesome deeds have been done by me” thus he suffers
He suffers still further, having gone to a woeful state.
He enjoys here, he enjoys hereafter,
A performer of wholesome deeds enjoys both places
“Wholesome deeds have been done by me” thus he rejoices
He enjoys still further having gone to a blissful state.
