Conjugation of e-ending verbal bases

While learning conjugation of e-ending verbal bases in the Present Tense, we saw that, the ending vowel ‘e’ of the verbal base can get modified / strengthened into an ‘aya’. Thus, an e-ending verbal bases have two alternate forms – ‘e’-ending and ‘aya’-ending forms.
E.g. dese = desaya
Thus, we encounter two alternate forms of e-ending verbal bases in the Future Tense as well.

Conjugation of e-ending verbal base (dese)

deseti / desayati = teaches

dese desaya
Singular Plural Singular Plural
desessati desessanti Third Person desayissati desayissanti
desessasi desessatha Second Person desayissasi desayissatha
desessāmi desessāma First Person desayissāmi desayissāma

Please note that the alternate ‘aya’-ending form ‘desaya’ has the ending vowel ‘a’ and hence it conjugates like a-ending verbal base ‘bhāsa’.
Here the ending vowel ‘a’ is dropped and the terminations for future tense are added.

desaya + issa + ti = desayissati

In case of ‘e’-ending verbal base ‘dese’ the last vowel ‘e’ is retained and the future tense termination ‘ssa’ gets added.

dese + ssa + ti = desessati

All the e-ending verbal bases conjugate like ‘dese / desaya’ in the Future Tense.
