“Sāmaññañca vo, bhikkhave, desessāmi, sāmaññaphalāni ca. |
“I will teach you, Bhikkhus, what is recluseship and what are the fruits of recluseship. |
Taṃ suṇātha. Katamañca, bhikkhave, sāmaññaṃ? |
Therefore listen! What, Bhikkhus, is recluseship? |
Ayameva ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo, seyyathidaṃ– sammādiṭṭhi …pe… sammāsamādhi. |
It is this very Noble Eightfold Path, which is right view, … right concentration. |
Idaṃ vuccati, bhikkhave, sāmaññaṃ. | This is, Bhikkhus, what is called recluseship. |
Katamāni ca, bhikkhave, sāmaññaphalāni? | What, Bhikkhus, are the fruits of recluseship? |
Sotāpattiphalaṃ, sakadāgāmiphalaṃ, anāgāmiphalaṃ, arahattaphalaṃ. |
These are the fruit of entering the stream, the fruit of once-returning, the fruit of non-returning and the fruit of becoming an arahant. |
imāni vuccanti, bhikkhave, sāmaññaphalānī”ti. | These, Bhikkhus, are the fruits of recluseship.” |
