Future Tense : a-ending verbal bases
Conjugation of a-ending verbal base (bhāsa)
bhāsati = speaks
Singular | Plural | |
---|---|---|
Third Person | bhāsissati | bhāsissanti |
Second Person | bhāsissasi | bhāsissatha |
First Person | bhāsissāmi | bhāsissāma |
Please note that the ending vowel ‘a’ of the verbal base ‘bhāsa’ is dropped and the terminations for future tense are added.
bhāsa + issa + ti = bhāsissati
All the a-ending verbal bases conjugate like ‘bhāsa’ in the Future Tense.
E.g.
paca : pacissati – pacissanti …
bhuñja : bhuñjissati – bhuñjissanti …
cara : carissati – carissanti …
āhara : āharissati – āharissanti …
gaccha : gacchissati – gacchissanti …
Please note : In case of verb ‘gacchati’ future tense forms can be derived from the verbal base gaccha, or the root – √gam
Thus future tense forms for verb gachhati are :
From verbal base gaccha :
gacchissati – gacchissanti,
gacchissasi – gacchissatha,
gacchissāmi – gacchissāma
From root √gam :
gamissati – gamissanti,
gamissasi – gamissatha,
gamissāmi – gamissāma
Similarly, in case of verb ‘āgacchati’ too, we have two possible forms :
āgacchissati – āgacchissanti … and āgamissati – āgamissanti
The same pattern will be applicable for any verbs containing verbal base gaccha.
E.g. : adhigacchati, upagacchati
