Yathāpi ruciraṃ pupphaṃ, vaṇṇavantaṃ agandhakaṃ, |
Just like a beautiful flower that is pleasant to look at but is without any fragrance, |
Evaṃ subhāsitā vācā, aphalā hoti akubbato. |
Agreeable speech will likewise bear no fruit if one does not act accordingly. |
Yathāpi ruciraṃ pupphaṃ, vaṇṇavantaṃ sugandhakaṃ. |
Just like a beautiful flower, pleasant to look and endowed with fragrance, |
Evaṃ subhāsitā vācā, saphalā hoti kubbato. |
Agreeable speech will likewise bear fruit if one acts accordingly. |
Yathāpi puppharāsimhā, kayirā mālāguṇe bahū, |
Just as a heap of flowers could produce many garlands of flowers, |
Evaṃ jātena maccena, kattabbaṃ kusalaṃ bahuṃ. |
Anyone born as a mortal should perform numerous wholesome acts. |
