Assuring the Path

Sammādiṭṭhisuttaṃ Assuring the Path
“Catūhi, bhikkhave,
dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu apaṇṇakappaṭipadaṃ paṭipanno hoti, yoni cassa āraddhā hoti āsavānaṃ khayāya.1
“There are four qualities, Bhikkhus,
if a Bhikkhu is endowed with, he has entered the assured path, thus from the beginning determined on the destruction of impurities.
Katamehi catūhi? What four?
Nekkhammavitakkena, abyāpādavitakkena, avihiṃsāvitakkena, sammādiṭṭhiyā. These are thoughts of dispassion, thoughts free from aversion, thoughts free from violence and right view.
Imehi kho, bhikkhave, catūhi dhammehi samannāgato bhikkhu apaṇṇakappaṭipadaṃ paṭipanno hoti, yoni cassa āraddhā hoti āsavānaṃ khayāyā”ti. These are the four qualities, Bhikkhus, if a Bhikkhu is endowed with, he has entered the assured path, thus from the beginning determined on the destruction of impurities.”

  1. Yoni cassa āraddhā hotīti kāraṇañcassa paripuṇṇaṃ hoti: ‘from the beginning determined on destruction’ is acting for its completeness (of this destruction).1
