Vandana: Esa Bhagavato sāvaka-saṅgho Inspiration Gained through the Ariyan Disciples
“No ce dhammaṃ anussareyyātha, atha saṅghaṃ anussareyyātha – … “If you do not remember the Dhamma, then you should recollect the Saṅgha thus:
Supaṭipanno Bhagavato sāvaka-saṅgho. ‘Those who have practised correctly, form the order of disciples of the Bhagavā.
Ujupaṭipanno Bhagavato sāvaka-saṅgho. Those who have practised uprightly, form the order of disciples of the Bhagavā.
Ñāyapaṭipanno Bhagavato sāvaka-saṅgho. Those who have practised wisely, form the order of disciples of the Bhagavā.
Sāmīcipaṭipanno Bhagavato sāvaka-saṅgho. Those who have practised properly, form the order of disciples of the Bhagavā.
Yadidaṃ cattāri purisa-yugāni, aṭṭha-purisa-puggalā, That is, the four pairs of men, the eight kinds of individuals,
Esa Bhagavato sāvaka-saṅgho; these form the order of disciples of the Bhagavā;

āhuneyyo,

pāhuneyyo,

dakkhiṇeyyo,

añjali-karaṇīyo,

anuttaraṃ puññakkhettaṃ lokassā’ti.

Worthy of offerings,

worthy of hospitality,

Worthy of gifts and

of reverent salutation,

They are an incomparable field of merit for the world.’

Saṅghañhi vo, bhikkhave, anussarataṃ yaṃ bhavissati bhayaṃ vā chambhitattaṃ vā lomahaṃso vā, so pahīyissati.” Indeed, Bhikkhus, if you remember the Saṅgha in this way whatever fear or stupefaction you may have, whatever hairs may stand on end, all that will vanish.”
