Paṭhama-asappurisasuttaṃ About an Unworthy Person
Sāvatthinidānaṃ.: This was explained in Sāvatthi:
“Asappurisañca vo, bhikkhave,
desessāmi, sappurisañca.
“I will teach you, Bhikkhus,
what is an unworthy and what is a worthy person.
Taṃ suṇātha.
Katamo ca, bhikkhave, asappuriso?
Therefor listen:
What, Bhikkhus, is an unworthy person?
Idha, bhikkhave, ekacco micchādiṭṭhiko hoti, micchāsaṅkappo, micchāvāco,
micchākammanto, micchā-ājīvo, micchāvāyāmo, micchāsati, micchāsamādhi–
ayaṃ vuccati, bhikkhave, asappuriso.
Here, Bhikkhus, a certain person upholds wrong view, wrong thought,
wrong speech, wrong action, wrong livelihood, wrong effort, wrong awareness and wrong concentration,
this, Bhikkhus, is what is called an unworthy person!
Katamo ca, bhikkhave, sappuriso?
Idha, bhikkhave, ekacco sammādiṭṭhiko hoti, sammāsaṅkappo, sammāvāco, sammākammanto, sammā-ājīvo, sammāvāyāmo, sammāsati, sammāsamādhi,
And what, Bhikkhus, is a worthy person?
Here Bhikkhus, a certain person maintains right view, right thought, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right awareness and right concentration,
ayaṃ vuccati, bhikkhave, sappuriso”ti. this is, Bhikkhus, what is called a worthy person!”
