He grieves here, he laments hereafter, An evildoer grieves in both places; |
so socati so vihaññati, disvā kammakiliṭṭhamattano. |
He laments being afflicted, Seeing his own evil deeds. |
Idha modati pecca modati, katapuñño ubhayattha modati. |
He rejoices here, he delights hereafter, A performer of wholesome deeds rejoices in both places. |
so modati so pamodati, disvā kammavisuddhimattano. |
He delights, he is thrilled, Recognizing the purity of his own deeds. |
Idha tappati pecca tappati, pāpakārī ubhayattha tappati; |
He suffers here, he endures hereafter, An evildoer suffers in both places; |
“pāpaṃ me katan”ti tappati, bhiyyo tappati duggatiṃ gato. |
“Unwholesome deeds have been done by me” thus he suffers, He suffers still further, having gone to a woeful state. |
Idha nandati pecca nandati, katapuñño ubhayattha nandati; |
He enjoys here, he enjoys hereafter, A performer of wholesome deeds enjoys both places; |
“puññaṃ me katan”ti nandati, bhiyyo nandati suggatiṃ gato. |
“Wholesome deeds have been done by me” thus he rejoices, He enjoys still further having gone to a blissful state. |
