Leading a Holy Life and the Fruits thereof
This was laid down in Sāvatthi.
“I will teach you, Bhikkhus, what is the holy life and what are the fruits of the holy life. Therefore listen!
What, Bhikkhus, is the holy life? It is this very Noble Eightfold Path, which is right view, … right concentration.
This is, Bhikkhus, what is called the holy life.
What, Bhikkhus, are the fruits of the holy life?
These are the fruit of entering the stream, the fruit of once-returning, the fruit of non-returning and the fruit of becoming an arahant.
These, Bhikkhus, are the fruits of the holy life.”
The Purpose of the Holy Life
