You need to install the Pāli keyboard from: http://tipitaka.org/keyboard

Then you will be able to type all the Pāli letters with proper diacritical marks.

What web browser / version are you using? I recall that things don't work properly in Firefox 3.6, but are OK in Firefox 4.

I am also using a Mac and alt+a gives me: ā

After you've installed the Pāli keyboard make sure that you switch the keyboard to "easyUnicode".

For example, if I use the U.S. keyboard and type "option" + "a" it looks like this - å

But if I switch it from U.S. to EasyUnicode and type "option" + "a" it looks like this - ā

I'm on a Mac (OS X) and I switch to EasyUnicode at the top right of the screen. When it's U.S. it shows a US flag and when it's EasyUnicode there's a circle with an "A" inside it.

I am using 5.0.1. My husband, Bill, checked it out for me, but we both missed the Keyboard Icon. big grin

Thanks so much for the help. I am sure these forums will benefit me and possibly many.

Good! Glad you got it working. Once you gēt it wōrkīng, it's aḷōt of fūn!

If you're using Windows, then I think the icon is on the bottom bar - and yes it appears as a Keyboard icon. Select "US+Pali Unicode"

On OS X (Apple computers), the icon will be at the top bar and reads as "EasyUnicode" (the icon is a green A in a circle).

Install http://tipitaka.org/keyboard
After install
altGr + a -> ā

AltGr + shift + a = AltGr + A -> Ā

For people with English keyboard this is direct.
