Vibhaṅgasuttaṃ, Part Two | What Is Right View |
---|---|
… ‘Katamā ca, bhikkhave, sammādiṭṭhi? | … ‘What, Bhikkhus, is called right view. |
Yaṃ kho, bhikkhave, dukkhe ñāṇaṃ, | It is, Bhikkhus, full knowledge of the fact of suffering; |
dukkhasamudaye ñāṇaṃ, | the knowledge of the arising of suffering; |
dukkhanirodhe ñāṇaṃ, | the knowledge of the cessation of suffering |
dukkhanirodhagāminiyā paṭipadāya ñāṇaṃ.1 | and the knowledge of the path leading to the eradication of suffering. |
Ayaṃ vuccati, bhikkhave, sammādiṭṭhi.’ … | This, Bhikkhus, is called right view.’ … |
- Here the fourth Noble Truth is defined through the complex compound: the knowledge — ñāṇaṃ (nt., sing.) — of the manner, conduct, way leading to — paṭipadāya (f., sing., gen.) — the eradication, cessation —nirodha — of suffering — dukkha.1
