Namo tassa bhagavato arahato sammāsambuddhassa

Dutiyasāmaññasuttaṃ	The Purpose of Being a Sāmañña
Sāvatthinidānaṃ.	This was laid down in Sāvatthi.
“Sāmaññañca vo, bhikkhave, desessāmi, sāmaññatthañca.	“I will teach you, Bhikkhus, what is recluseship and what is the purpose of recluseship.
Taṃ suṇātha. Katamañca kho, bhikkhave, sāmaññaṃ?	Therefore listen! What, Bhikkhus, is recluseship?
Ayameva ariyo aṭṭhaṅgiko maggo, seyyathidaṃ, sammādiṭṭhi …pe¹… sammāsamādhi.	It is this very Noble Eightfold Path, which is right view, … right concentration.
Idaṃ vuccati, bhikkhave, sāmaññaṃ.	This is, Bhikkhus, what is called recluseship.
Katamo ca, bhikkhave, sāmaññattho?	What, Bhikkhus, is the purpose of recluseship?
Yo kho, bhikkhave, rāgakkhayo dosakkhayo mohakkhayo.	It is the destruction of craving, the destruction of ill-will and the destruction of delusion.
ayaṃ vuccati, bhikkhave, sāmaññattho”ti.	This, Bhikkhus, is the purpose of recluseship.”
