Mind precedes all phenomena, mind matters most,

Everything is mind-made,

If based in impure mind, whatever one says or does,

Suffering is bound to follow,

As the cartwheel follows the hoof of a draught animal.

If based in pure mind, whatever one says or does,

Happiness is bound to follow,

As a shadow that never departs.
