About Being a Brahmañña and the Fruits Thereof

This was laid down in Sāvatthi.

“I will teach you, Bhikkhus, what is Brahminhood and what are the fruits of Brahminhood. Therefore listen!

What, Bhikkhus, is Brahminhood?

It is this Noble Eightfold Path, which is right view, … right concentration. This is, Bhikkhus, what is called Brahminhood.

What, Bhikkhus, are the fruits of Brahminhood?

These are the fruit of entering the stream, the fruit of once-returning, the fruit of non-returning and the fruit of becoming an arahant.

These, Bhikkhus, are the fruits of Brahminhood.”

The Purpose of Being a Brahmañña

This was laid down in Sāvatthi.

“I will teach you, Bhikkhus, what is Brahminhood and what is the purpose of Brahminhood. Therefore listen!

What, Bhikkhus, is Brahminhood?

It is this very Noble Eightfold Path, which is right view, … right concentration. This is, Bhikkhus, what is called Brahminhood.

What, Bhikkhus, is the purpose of Brahminhood?

It is the destruction of craving, the destruction of ill-will and the destruction of delusion.

This, Bhikkhus, is the purpose of Brahminhood.”
