1.4.2 Inspiration Gained through the Ariyan Disciples*

… “If you do not remember the Dhamma, then you should recollect the Saṅgha thus:

‘Those who have practised correctly, form the order of disciples of the Bhagavā.

Those who have practised uprightly, form the order of disciples of the Bhagavā.

Those who have practised wisely, form the order of disciples of the Bhagavā.

Those who have practised properly, form the order of disciples of the Bhagavā.

That is, the four pairs of men, the eight kinds of individuals,

These form the order of disciples of the Bhagavā;

Are worthy of offerings, of hospitality, of gifts, of reverent salutation,

They are an incomparable field of merit for the world.’

Indeed, Bhikkhus, if you remember the Saṅgha in this way whatever fear or stupefaction you may have, whatever hairs may stand on end, all that will vanish.”
